On Tuesday May 22nd, the Tango Restaurant and Lounge will be donating 20 percent of their proceeds to the Rancho Bernardo Gridiron Club. Simply print the attached flyer and head on over to 417 West Grand Avenue in Escondido to enjoy some great food and drinks while also supporting RBHS football. In case you were not able to make our parent meeting on 5/2 (for returning players), here are some key pieces of information we’d like to share with you:

1) The Information Packet including dates, costs, etc. is available in the “Forms and Handouts” section under the Parent tab on this website. Please make sure you take a close look.

2) Please register with www.rbfootball.org so that you may begin to receive important e-mail updates.

3) The Gridiron Club needs your help in a variety of ways, so please sign up to help one of the following committees by e-mailing the committee chair. You’ll have a lot of fun…promise!

4) We have four fundraisers simultaneously occurring right now. Anything you can do to support these efforts is appreciated.

Lift-a-thon: players are getting people to donate a penny for every pound they lift on May 16.
Beggar Letter: players will mail out at least 10 letters provided to them, asking for donations to help cover the costs of our program.
Wings-N-Things: This restaurant is offering 20% back to our program if you dine there on May 9.
Tango: This restaurant inEscondidois offering 20% back to our program if you dine there on May 22.

5) We are teaming up with Team Red, White and Blue in hosting a 12-hr relay on May 19^th to raise awareness and funds for this wonderful organization that does so much for our nation’s wounded veterans. If you would like to help, please contact Kathleen Kennedy (kathleenkennedy@san.rr.com)

Next Gridiron Club Meeting – 10 April

The next Gridiron Club Meeting is scheduled for 7pm on Tuesday, 10 April, in Coach Carp’s classroom. (Room E-16) All RB Football parents and fans are welcome to join us!

One important agenda item is a vote on revisions to the Gridiron Club By-laws. Those planning to attend the meeting are encouraged to review the proposed revision to the by-laws prior to the meeting. The club’s Articles of Organization are also available for review.

6 Week Grades Update

Coming into this semester, I was a little concerned about the academic performance of our young men. Although we had 20 players with over a 3.0 GPA—which is tremendous and deserving of recognition—we had 15 players that ended the 1^st semester with under at 2.0 GPA. Consequently, those players who struggled were put on our RB Football Academic Success Track (FAST), in which they had to get their grades updated every other week, and attend tutorial twice a week.

As worried as I was beginning the semester, I am very proud of our young men and how they started off the second semester. Now, we still have about 20 players above a 3.0 GPA, but now we only have 3 under a 2.0 GPA. There were even a few on the FAST program that got their grades over a 3.0!

Academics are important, not only because it reflects the level of learning of our young men—and will most likely be their meal ticket later on in life—but it also reflects the discipline and hard work they are willing to commit to something that is not always easy. I am very proud of our student-athletes that continue to excel, but perhaps even more proud of those who are turning around their habits and working to improve their academic standing.

The Gridiron Club is hosting a very special talk from Coach McCoy on Tuesday night, 3/13 at 7:PM in room E-16. Coach McCoy will be talking about continuing your football career in college. Topics will include:
1. Steps to take from freshman-senior year
2. Statistics/numbers about college athletics
3. How to recruit yourself
4. College Planning process

This event is for PARENTS and PLAYERS.
